LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR I would like to take a minute of your time to clarify something that has really been bugging me about
our 7th-9th Grade Boys Baseball Team. I want everyone to know that the reason diamond #1 is closed for repairs IS NOT
their fault. Yes, I wish that they would have moved to the grass for practice but hind sight is 20/20. That is
behind us now. The field has needed rebuilt for some time. Low areas form from trying to spread water out so it
will dry faster. This technique should only be used on game days if needed to dry a field in a hurry. Otherwise,
it should not be used because it digs a gradual hole, or low spot. Those low spots do not pack very well and if the
base (which is a gradual slope) is hard and you try to pack moist dirt back in it, it will form a plate. That means
that the packed in dirt does not bond with the base and can slip at any time. This is a dangerous situation. I
spoke with our board chairperson and asked if they thought i should fix it right or just make it playable and we would fight
this everytime it rains. I was told to fix it the right way. On Monday morning the forecast for the week was hot
and windy, which is perfect for the situation. We worked up the field and re-crowned it. Then we got rained on.
Although we need lots of moisture to get the field packed, we also need lots of heat and wind. This will let it dry
completely throughout all the layers. My information shows that we got almost 3 inches of rain on Tuesday night after
we got some rain on Monday night. The moisture has saturated the ground making it unable to pack. This is just
some information that alot of people do not understand. Now I would like to say that this
IS NOT the fault of these young men. It is a case of trying to guess Mother Nature and of course, I lost. It really
makes me sad that these young men are taking heat for something that isn't their fault. The field will be ready soon
and better than it was. I hope that these young men and their parents will accept my apologies and keep practicing and
supporting their teams. I did what we felt was the best for the safety of the players and would make the rest of the
season easier to prepare the fields for. Once again, it is not the kids' fault so please do not take it out on them.
To the players, good luck and we will get your games re-scheduled as soon as possible. Thank you, Brandon Davidson
